Courses for those who work in rural and outdoor environments

Based in the South of Cumbria, we are just on the outskirts of the Lake District. We run most of our Open Courses between September and May please see calendar below. Private courses can be arranged either nationally or locally at other times for a group of people, at your venue. Our courses are practical, and are aimed at people working in remote, outdoor and rural environments Courses are certificated for 3 years.

Who needs a first aid qualification?

The Law says it is the employers responsibility to assess the level of first aid provision needed in their organisation, this means that employers have complete control of what equipment and level of training is necessary for their situation.
HSE recognise that Schools and Outdoor Education may require different training to the standard First Aid at Work, which does not cover such things as working with children, drowning, cold etc. (all fairly important if you work outdoors with kids!)
For Outdoor Activity Provision -  The Adventurous Activities (young people) Act 19  requires that participants must be accompanied by  (or have access to)  a qualified first aider, the level of qualification is then upto the employer to establish what level of skills they envision the first aider.  All our outdoor courses meet the needs of British Canoeing, RYA qualifications and our two day courses meet the need of MTUK qualifications.
Forest Schools Provision - we offer the option of an outdoor course with a Paediatric component for those that work with children mainly of school age.
